Matariki Skyline
Myself and another Rotorua photographer were commissioned by Skyline Rotorua to take an astro photograph of Matariki (the Pleiades) constellation.
For many Polynesian groups the appearance of Matariki (the Pleiades), a pretty star cluster in the constellation of Taurus, towards dawn (late May in Aotearoa – New Zealand), marked the beginning of the New Year.
Matariki is the small cluster of stars just above the wheels on the chairlift tower to the left.
A 6x portrait photo panorama, stitched and processed in Lightroom CC.
I was honoured to be awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the artistic section of the 2015 Harry Williams astrophotography competition for this photo in early October 2015.
