Sunrise at the Tarns

The Pouakai Tarns is one of those ‘bucket list shots’ I’ve wanted to get ever since Vicarious NZ Photography made it world famous!

I was glad to be joined by a couple of local photographers who know the area well, we tramped up to spend the night in the Pouakai Hut, and witnessed a nice sunset and this cloudy dramatic sunrise.

During sunset there was up to 16 people here, at least 10 with cameras, the most ever seen by one of the photographers I was with.

During sunrise the wind picked up a bit reducing the quality of the mirror like finish this tarn is well known for.
