Rotorua Caldera
This is a nine frame panorama taken just after sunset from the view up at Aorangi Peak Restaurant.
Mark Smith and I were treated to a nice light show as the sun went down, there was little wind so the lake was still creating pleasant reflections in the lake of Mokoia Island and the colour in the sky.
That rosy pinkish arch visible after sunset is called the ‘Belt of Venus’, which is caused by backscattering of refracted sunlight due to fine dust particles high in the atmosphere.
